Cancer Group Coffee Morning – Chilton

The Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year for 2024. The next coffee morning at the Chilton Catholic Club will be held on Wednesday 21 February 10am-12noon. We welcome everyone from the surrounding area to come along and enjoy a cuppa and cakes, and to find out how the charity have been supporting cancer patients across the local area. Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group as a local charity supports anybody within Newton Aycliffe and surrounding towns/villages who have been affected by cancer. This year the charity celebrates its 10-year anniversary with a function due to take place to celebrate this landmark on Friday 8 March in the Phoenix Club, Macmillan Road, Newton Aycliffe. Tickets are available in the GACSG shop in Aycliffe and at the Phoenix Club. This much needed local charity now has two shops open during the week in Newton Aycliffe Town Centre opposite Savers and in Darlington, opposite the entrance to the Cornmill Centre. Within the Aycliffe shop is an information hub for members of the community who have received a cancer diagnosis, are living with cancer or are receiving treatment for cancer. The Aycliffe shop and hub is currently open every Tuesday and Thursday 9.30am-3pm, and Friday 10am-2pm. The Darlington shop is now open 10.00-2.30pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We are currently in need of volunteers to man both shops, as well as provide patient transport for cancer patients to attend hospital appointments to receive treatment, the demand for this service has dramatically increased. Anyone who can spare even a few hours a week as a volunteer would be warmly welcomed. Please contact us through our Facebook page or via the telephone number detailed below. The opening of these shops is in line with the aim of the charity to provide services to County Durham residents who require support following on from a cancer diagnosis. Services provided include the following: Providing information on issues affecting cancer patients. Patient transport. Influencing cancer services in the future. Regular social activities, with others affected by cancer. Assistance with benefits claims. Day trips, social events, meals out. Confidential and emotional support in a safe and friendly environment.
