Spennymoor Youth and Community Association held the third Youth Fest in August, attracting 400 children, young people and their families looking to find out what clubs, groups and activities are out there for them.
Thirty organisations attended the event, sharing information on what they do and offering the chance for families to try out activities for themselves.
Organisations included dance, sports, theatre, martial arts, youth clubs and outdoors skills, as well as a range of family support services.
“Thanks to funding help from Livin, Durham County Council and Kingdom Culture Church, Youth Fest was free again for families,” said Project, Partnerships and Funding Manager, Michael Fishwick.
The day was also able to celebrate young people with free hair, make up, nails, body art, glitter tattoos and street food.
“It is hoped that many connections were made on the day,” added Michael.
Youth Fest aims to help children and young people find meaningful activities which are local, affordable and accessible.
Association Chair, Barbara Graham thanked all who attended and took part for their time, effort and support.
“The aim is for Youth Fest to continue to grow and develop in future years,” said Barbara, “with the network of youth and family organisations working closely together to meet the needs of local young people and their families.”
Meanwhile, Stay and Play is back for the Autumn term at the community centre, from Thursday 10 September, 10am until 1pm.
The sessions, at just £1 per child, are suitable for preschoolers and their adults, with lots of space to play, toys, a bouncy castle, music and lights.
The Community Cafe will be open in the Lounge and all are welcome.
