Two Bishop Auckland women have teamed up with a friend from Shildon in order to form a group that will support the charity, Cancer Research UK.
The group, wich is called Bishop Auckland Cancer Research Committee, will raise funds that will be used to help fight cancer in the area.
Cancer Research UK have given the women freedom to raise funds however they see fit, and the women have wasted no time in planning their events. Sponsored events and a charity ball will take place in the area in October. Before that, however, the women will take part in the Race For Life event at Darlington in June.
The group stress that all of the money they raise will stay in the area, meaning that people living locally will benefit from the funds. The women want to raise awareness of cancer and screening processes that allow cancer to be detected earlier.
The group are distributing literature and posters throughout the Bishop Auckland and Dales area. Those who would like to contribute to the group through sharing fundraising ideas can contact the women by email sarahlatcham@yahoo.co.uk.
