A disqualified driver who drove at speeds of 90mph in Ferryhill has been jailed.
Patrolling officers, PCs Brown and Sparrow-Woods spotted Kyle Wright driving a VW Golf in the town centre on Thursday last week.
Wright failed to stop for the officers and a pursuit ensued through Ferryhill, Chilton and Ferryhill Station where Wright sped at 80mph in 30mph zones and 90mph in a 60mph zone, dangerously overtaking cyclists and putting other road users at risk.
After six minutes, Wright (pictured) abandoned the Golf but was found hiding in a nearby garden and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, disqualified driving, having no insurance and failing to stop.
The 26-year-old, of Spennymoor, was also wanted for breaching court bail and had been recalled to prison the previous day.
He was taken into custody, charged, remanded and put before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Saturday where he pleaded guilty to all offences and was handed a 12-month prison sentence. He has also been further disqualified from driving for five years.
