Championing Identity is a powerful exhibition celebrating the voices, experiences, and individuality of people from within our community. Through a unique collaboration between artist and participant, each portrait is shaped by personal storytelling — capturing not just how someone looks, but who they are and what they carry.
This work offers a rare and honest insight into lived experiences often unseen or unheard. From frontline roles to personal journeys of resilience, each piece reflects the complexity of identity – shaped by challenge, growth, and connection.
At its core, the exhibition is about people. It is about listening, understanding, and recognising the depth of experience that exists within our communities. By bringing these stories into a shared space, Championing Identity invites audiences to connect, reflect, and see others – and themselves – differently.
Supported by Durham County Council’s Big Arts Funding and Public Health, the project highlights the importance of creativity as a tool for wellbeing, expression, and meaningful dialogue.
This is more than an exhibition. It is a celebration of identity, a platform for voices, and a reminder that every story matters.
