A new community interest company called Bright Futures Ferryhill was launched last week with the aim of bringing opportunities and experiences to children of Ferryhill who would not usually be able to access them due to barriers such as financial difficulties, transport, support and more.
The not for profit organisation has already organised a number of projects in the town, including a weekly youth club called Young-uns, which runs every Wednesday from 5-6pm at Ferryhill Sport and Education Centre.
It has also organised a movie night and family Christmas party, with the children who attended enjoying a range of activities including games, disco, sports and crafts. One little boy said: “This has been so fun, I can’t wait to come next time.”
The organisation plans to run lots more projects in the new year including a gifted and talented scheme, more activities and events and hopes to have some trips out too.
Bright Futures Ferryhill has already met with lots of local groups currently offering activities to discuss how working together with more children from the area will help more to participate by breaking down the barriers that currently stop them.
The organisation has completed research through surveys of parents and children to find out what activities they feel are missing, why the children don’t attend what’s currently available and how likely children would be to attend free or partially funded activities.
The information will be used to help plan future projects.
“With support from established community groups, schools, residents and the children Bright Futures Ferryhill CIC is looking forward to creating a positive impact on our town,” said founding director, Hannah Wilkinson.
