Bishop Auckland hosts Platinum Jubilee events

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated in the town.

Bishop Auckland Town Council are thrilled to present an array of Platinum Jubilee celebrations early next month to celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth’s 70 year reign on the throne. 

Bishop Auckland‘s Platinum Jubilee – A weekend of Jubilee events is being sponsored by the Town Council but delivered with a range of community partners, all events will be free.

The activities commence on Thursday 2 June with the Platinum Party in the Market Place, which brings community entertainment, street food vendors, street entertainment together to provide a party to remember from early evening, and will end with the a celebratory Jubilee Beacon being lit, as part of the national network to commence the Jubilee celebrations, followed by a show stopping act. 

Friday 3 June brings a collaboration with Northern Bygones Society who are bringing a vintage car show to the Market Place where visitors can view cars through the ages. 

A platinum picnic, a day of traditional games, entertainment, jubilee activities taking place on Saturday 4 June. Auckland Castle will be kindly opening up its beautiful grounds to help to host this memorable event for all the family. This event is free, however, due to numbers, this will be ticketed. Tickets will be made available to Bishop Auckland residents first before welcoming those from the surrounding towns and villages. The first wave of tickets will be available from the 9 May via the Bishop Auckland Town Council website.

The Town Council will also be organising a free small funfair of traditional rides including teacups, swings, and more for small children, in the Market Place on Saturday 4 June.
