A Christmas Message from the Mayor of Spennymoor

Cllr Liz Maddison.

On behalf of all of us at Spennymoor Town Council I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Christmas is a time of celebration, spending precious time with our loved ones and friends, and our hopes and expectations that the New Year will bring better times. Our Church leaders have spoken this year of the HOPE for PEACE across the World, how we should love our neighbours and spare a thought for all those who are vulnerable, lonely and less fortunate than ourselves.

I have remembered my last Christmas message when I was Mayor during Covid (December 2020). We could not see an end to the pandemic and were despondent. Our resilience and Northern grit got us through this sad time and as we face many economic pressures at this time, it will get us through again. As Community leaders we will find innovative ways to lighten the burden and provide ways to bring our communities together and foster good relationships. You will have seen more community events in our Town, how we have improved the services we offer and addressed social issues to make life better. We hope to continue and expand on this theme next year.

As we celebrate can I ask you to think of all those that are working this Christmas time – our volunteers that give up their time to help those in need; our NHS workers, fire and police services who keep us safe and our community representatives who think of ways to bring good cheer.  We thank them all for their service and dedication.

May this Christmas time bring you much joy and happiness.

Best wishes,
Cllr Liz Maddison, Town Mayor
