Saint John’s tower captain, Trevor Thompson, found himself in a unique position when he was called upon to adjudicate on, and then present, two Scouting badges recently.
For the first time ever in the history of Saint John’s Church, and of All Saint’s Scout group, two scouts were presented with bellringer badges.
Demonstrating such skills as splicing rope, as well as the ability to ring bells up to ten times their own weight, Lexie Cleasby and Emily Callaghan stood proudly to attention as the badges were presented.
Revd. David commented, “It is young people like Emily and Lexie that help make Shildon the community it is.
“Forget tales of anti-social behaviour and youth delinquency, the majority of the young people of our community are industrious, committed and hardworking.”
Emily and Lexie will be heard throughout the town ringing for weddings at the church and on Sundays for the rest of 2013 and beyond.
