Shildon AFC recorded their second win under new manager Daniel ‘Bobby’ Moore’s reign with a 1-0 away victory at Ashington on Saturday 28th January.
Moore has brought in former Middlesbrough and Hartlepool player, Micky Barron, as his assistant manager.
Barron is a legend at Hartlepool, spending 18 years at Victoria Park. He was their inspirational club captain, making nearly 350 appearances for the club.
He was in the technical area, which allowed the manager to take up his usual playing position in the midfield.
A first minute chance for Ashington proved to be the only excitement of a drab first half. Dale Pearson was put through on goal but Shildon ’keeper Nick Liversedge made a good block with his feet.
Other than that, neither side managed a solitary shot on target.
Indeed, the highlight of the first half came when the fire alarm sounded in the main stand and two fire engines arrived at the ground shortly afterwards.
However, like most of the first half, it proved a false alarm.
The management duo must have had harsh words to the players during the break as Shildon created more pressure in the first two minutes of the second half than all the first.
A Lewis Wing free kick was parried by the keeper but Billy Greulich-Smith fired over.
Two minutes later Greulich-Smith found man of the match Lewis Wing who cleverly beat ’keeper Conor Grant and fired into the empty net.
Two more great efforts by Wing brought equally great saves.
In the end Shildon were worthy winners with Liversedge not having a single save to make throughout the second half.
