Where a River Remembers by Derek Siddle

A new exhibition of oil paintings by artist Derek Siddle is due to open Saturday 7th November at Number Three Fine Art gallery in Bishop Auckland.

The exhibition, which features sixteen oil paintings, celebrates Derek’s memories of exploring the River Wear as a Child and young adult, from the Dam Head to Jock’s Bridge.

Like many local residents Derek learned about the river through fishing trips with his father and visits in the summer with his family; as well as the freedom of a childhood that allowed us to roam, getting to know the river, its bends, flow and banks, and eventually inspired his first forays into painting when he painted a view of Newton Cap Viaduct over 38 years ago.

The sixteen new works continue in that tradition of place-memory and reminisce, and although Derek now splits his time between London and the North East, visitors to the exhibition will immediately connect with the places shown in the works.

In addition to his most recent paintings, Derek will also have available a number of prints from his previous exhibition celebrating local trains and railways of the area, including The Flying Scotsman, which is having a drive through Bishop Station on 13th, 14th & 15th November as it makes its way to Stanhope Station.

Where a River Remembers opens Saturday 7th Nov – 27th Nov, Number Three Fine Art, 3 Cockton Hill Road, Bishop Auckland. (Search, “Number Three Fine Art Bishop Auckland” for opening hours)
