Members of the Chikara Dojo Karate Club based in Spennymoor took part in the So-Kyokushin Karate Welsh Championships recently. The competition is held annually with fighters from across the UK in attendance. From the ten members who attended, nine had not entered a competition before and seven returned home triumphant.
In the men’s high grade kata, Kyle Corner placed 3rd; in the girl’s 6 to 10 year old kata, Amarii Makonza placed 3rd; in the boys 10 year + kata, Charles Murfett placed 3rd; in the boys 6 to 9 year old kata, Aidan Makonza placed 1st and in the girls 11 year + Hannah Grayson placed 3rd.
In the cadets semi contact, Amarii placed 2nd in her category, Ava Jones placed 3rd in hers, William Murfett placed 3rd in his and Aidan placed 3rd in his.
Club Instructor Lee Corner (1st Dan), was delighted with the results. “Our students are a credit to themselves, their families and their club and should be extremely proud of their achievements. To enter a competition takes guts and determination. Our team’s preparation and hard work over the past months has paid off,” he commented.
