Weardale to Connect to Mainline

Residents of Bishop Auckland could soon have a direct rail link to the dales. The American owners of the Weardale Railway are hoping that the line could be connected to Bishop Auckland as soon as July of this year.

Earlier in the year a test run was performed to see if the track was in healthy condition after restoration works. It was the first time that a train had ran from Weardale to Bishop in 12 years.

As well as passenger services, it is hoped that charter trains will bring visitors from all over Britain and overseas, and the railway will also be used to transport freight.
