June’s outing for Aycliffe Fell Walking Club took them to Herriot country with a selection of walks from Devonshire Arms Bolton Abbey to the bustling town of Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales.
Here is an account of a typical day out with AFWC from one of the walkers:
We caught the coach at Bishop Auckland and away we went, picking others up on way. It was and absolutely lovely walk from Bolton Abbey to Grassington with beautiful scenery en-route and the weather was perfect all the way. We called in for a quencher at a pub in Burnsall, meeting up with the rest of the walkers at the end – such a friendly crowd and a great walking group!
After a change of boots we visited a cafe for green tea and a (chocolate-free) knickerbocker glory then onto the pub to join the rest of the walkers in the sunshine for a catch up. They filmed the James Herriot second series here in Grassington and the cafe had lots of photos in frames of them and the crew on their walls. A fantastic day all in all.
