In their latest Neighbourhood Policing Team update, Shildon Police have reported a number of incidents.
Officers stopped a vehicle following reports of suspected drug dealing. A search of the vehicle uncovered a small quantity of cannabis and a knuckle duster. The vehicle was also seized due to the driver having no insurance or valid driving licence.
Another vehicle failed to stop for officers in the Shildon area and was subsequently pursued. The vehicle was later recovered and enquiries are ongoing.
NPT responded to reports of a male threatening members of the public with a knife. The suspect, who was allegedly in possession of the weapon, was tasered twice after failing to comply. He was arrested at the scene and has been charged with multiple offences. He is now due to appear in court.
The team has noted a rise in theft-related incidents across the area. Investigations are currently ongoing to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Shildon Police have also reported an increase in youth-related anti-social behaviour in the area recently, including damage to vehicles, including their own police cars, and general nuisance activity impacting members of our community.
A number of local youths are under investigation in connection with reports. Several individuals have already been interviewed as part of the enquiries.
“We want to reassure residents that positive action is being taken,” they said via their Facebook page.
“Four individuals have been arrested and dealt with, stop searches have been conducted, an Anti-Social Behaviour action plan is in place and we are working closely with our partner agencies to tackle the problem head-on. Those identified are being held accountable for their actions, and further enquiries are ongoing.”
The police have also asked the community to assit them when they can to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Your help continues to make a real difference,” they said. “If you’ve seen or heard anything, or have CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage that could help, please get in touch. Every bit of information helps us make our community safer.”
Anyone witnessing anti-social behaviour, such as illegal off-road bikes, should report the incident by caling 101.
A log of incidents helps the police to beuild a case. Reporting incidents helps police and councils track hotspots and recurring issues. This can lead to increased patrols, community interventions and legal action.
