Shildon Town Council has paid their respects to Town Councillor Muriel Gordon, who sadly passed away on 21st June following a short illness.

Muriel, nee Hillary, was born in Foundry Street as one of 11 children. She met her husband David at a dance in Heighington in 1966, marrying three years later in 1969.

Muriel’s jobs over the years included a Machinist position at Block & Anderson and manager of MIND in Newton Aycliffe, where she stayed for 18 years until she became ill. She was also a qualified Reiki Master and a regular church goer. As an active member of Shildon Town Council she represented the Sunnydale Ward, as well as holding the position of Deputy Town Mayor.

Her Husband David, who is also a Town Councillor, described his wife as having lived a full life, making lots of lifelong friends along the way.

Town Mayor, Cllr Matthew Burdess said, “Muriel was not only an exceptional individual, she was also a first class elected representative for the town. The thoughts and prayers of all her friends and colleagues at the Town Council are with her family at this extremely sad time.”
