Children from Timothy Hackworth Primary School joined in the Guerrilla Gardening project with enthusiasm, as the town basked in summer sunshine last week.
Over 120 children poured into Hackworth park, planting the many new stone planters lining the paths as well as sorting out and planting the beds around the coal cart.
Shildon Alive (A Saint John’s Church Project) came up with the idea to encourage children to take pride in their local area and Paula Nelson (Shildon Alive’s Community Development Worker) supported by volunteers organised the entire programme.
Over 800 children are signed up to take part with support from Councillor’s Henry Nicholson and Trish Pemberton’s neighbourhood funds.
With every school involved, children and young people have been working throughout the town, making a difference to the community.
