To celebrate the life of Timothy Hackworth and especially his connection to Methodism, a service is being held in Shildon Methodist Community Hall at 10.45am on Sunday 6 July to coincide with 175 years since his death on 7 July 1850, writes Susan Horner.
This year is also the 200th anniversary of the opening of the first passenger railway service on the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
All are welcome to attend the service and afterwards there will be refreshments.
There will be a large display of historical artefacts all relating to the history of both Timothy Hackworth the man and his legacy for Methodism in the town.
If you cannot attend our service, which is separate to the combined churches programme, then there will be an opportunity to view the display at the following times during July:
Tuesday afternoons between 1pm and 3pm;
Thursday mornings between 9.45am and 11am.
Many people in the town will have fond memories of activities within our church, remembering Sunday School, Parent & Toddler Group, The Wes Youth Club, Youth Connection, Homemakers, Womens’ Fellowship and so on.
