There’s a new spark of creativity lighting up Shildon this winter, one that’s set to bring people together, build confidence, and celebrate imagination.
Stagepoint Studio, founded by local resident Jarone Macklin-Page, launches its first acting term at The Shildon Railway Institute this November. The studio’s mission is simple: to help people of all ages grow in confidence, creativity, and community through the power of theatre.
Jarone is a professionally trained actor (Italia Conti BA Hons Acting) with experience across stage, screen, and leadership. Over the years, he’s seen how creativity can bring out the best in people on and off the stage. That belief sits at the heart of Stagepoint: that theatre isn’t just about performing, it’s about learning to express yourself, understand others, and discover confidence in who you are.
His connection with the town deepened over the summer through the Railway Stories project at Jubilee Fields Community Centre. The project gave local children the chance to create and perform their own stories inspired by Shildon’s proud railway heritage, and it revealed something truly special.
“I was amazed by the imagination and enthusiasm of the young people here,” Jarone said. “It reminded me how powerful theatre can be, not just for performance, but for personal growth. I wanted to create something lasting that would give children, teenagers, and adults a place to discover their voice and their confidence.
“Theatre brings people together in such a unique way, it gives everyone a chance to shine.”
Stagepoint’s first term begins on 9 November 2025, with three groups: ages 5–11, 11–16, and adults 16+. The children’s and teen classes have already completely filled, showing how excited families are to see theatre thriving in Shildon once again. Those interested can join the waiting list for future terms, while a few places remain for the adult group.
Sessions take place weekly at the historic Railway Institute, with small class sizes to ensure every participant receives focused attention and a supportive space to grow.
“Theatre changed my life,” Jarone said. “It helped me find confidence, direction, and a voice when I needed it most. Stagepoint Studio is my way of passing that on, to help others discover what they’re truly capable of.”
