Students consider Future Steps

Thirty different organisations across a wide variety of sectors were represented at the event.

Earlier this month, Ferryhill School held its highly anticipated Future Steps Careers Event, aimed at guiding students as they explore their future educational and career pathways, writes Business Studies teacher, Mr Wallace.

With enthusiastic participation from both students and parents, this year’s event was a tremendous success, offering valuable insights and inspiration to all who attended.

Throughout the event, we were delighted to welcome 46 representatives from 30 different organisations, spanning a wide variety of sectors.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet professionals from local colleges, sixth forms, training providers, universities, and public service organisations such as the fire service, army, navy, and National Citizen Service.

The wealth of information shared by these providers helped students gain a deeper understanding of their options and gave them a glimpse into potential careers.

The event saw full attendance from our Year 9 cohort, who eagerly engaged with providers and completed activity sheets to record key facts about the pathways on offer.

Year 10 students also joined in, with many attending sessions throughout the school day, as well as a large number returning after school to further explore their options.

Over 170 parents and carers joined their Year 10/11 children, taking the time to discuss and explore future possibilities with them, which added a wonderful sense of support and community to the event.

In addition to external provider, our staff hosted informative sessions on essential subjects like English, Maths, Science, and the importance of education in shaping future goals.

These sessions offered students and parents a chance to reflect on how school subjects relate to real-world careers and the pathways ahead.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this event.

To our staff who helped with organisation, escorted classes, and guided students during the event, as well as to our caretakers and support staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, your dedication made all the difference.

A special thank you goes out to all our external providers for their time, enthusiasm and commitment to helping our students envision their futures.

The Future Steps Careers Event reminded us all that students thrive when they are inspired and informed.

We look forward to more events like this that empower our young people to make confident, informed decisions about their education and career paths.
