Two sporting clubs in Bishop Auckland are among 148 local sports projects to secure a share of £10 million of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.
Bishop Auckland Cricket Club were awarded £53,850 to upgrade their changing rooms, while Bishop Auckland Canoe and Kayaking Group received £54,865 to establish its first permanent base.
The kayaking club will use the funds to refurbish the disused swimming pool at St John’s RC School.
John Holmes, secretary of the club said, “This grant is fantastic news. The grant will ensure the future of the club for many years to come, offering an updated, energy-efficient facility. This will include a new viewing area, cubicles, lockers, pool plant refurbishments and full disabled access to enable the club and the school to offer canoeing and kayaking to all.”
