The Probus Club is an association of retired and semi-retired persons, seeking opportunities for fellowship and an extension of interests.
Spennymoor Probus meets on a fortnightly basis for an interesting programme of talks from local specialists.
We welcome and encourage membership of ladies and gentlemen; we are keen to expand our membership.
We organise day trips to which partners and friends can be invited.
We are autonomous, and we choose our own rules and programme.
We do not exist to raise money for charity.
The Spennymoor Probus club starts each meeting with refreshments, together with a brief business meeting.
We then have a talk of general interest form a local expert, with the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the meeting.
We have lunch at a local restaurant twice a year for members and guests.
On Tuesday 8 July, at 9.30am the Spennymoor Probus Club is opening its doors to all interested individuals, ladies or gentlemen, for an informal meeting with current members; refreshments will be served, and a talk from Mike Thornton, the son in law of Norman Cornish, our distinguished local artist, who will be sharing with us his knowledge of Norman Cornish and his good friend L S Lowry, the well-known Mancunian artist.
We meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in Saint David’s Church Hall off Tudhoe Lane, DL16 6LL.
