Five members of Spectrum Roller Skating Academy recently attended Figure, Free, Pairs & Inline British Championships held on Friday 10, Saturday 11 & 12 Sunday July and came home with six British Champion titles and two Vice Champion titles!
Skating in their first ever Pairs events, Jackson Bainbridge and Elizabeth Thompson achieved 1st place in Mini Basic Pairs with a program to music from Pirates of the Caribbean. They gained a fabulous score which earned them level 1 pair skating certificates.
Austin Armstrong at his first ever championships won 1st place in both Mini Basic Figures and Mini Basic Free Skating. He completed his first program to space themed music.
Jackson Bainbridge competed in British Championships for the third time. This was his first year in Mini Men and he achieved 1st place in figures and 2nd place in free skating where he performed a karate kid routine.
Liam Stevens skated in Espoir Men’s figures and achieved 1st place and Espoir Men’s free skating and achieved 2nd place with a new PB. He completed routines to around the world in 80 days and Ninjago. At only 12 years old, this is Liams fifth consecutive figure and free championships. During his competitive years in various disciplines he has achieved 15 British Championship medals and 8 British Championship titles.
Ben Prior, aged 50, competed in Senior Men’s figures and achieved 1st place where he became Senior Men’s British Champion proving skating is for all ages. He came back to competing after over 30 years break and has shown how perseverance, discipline and hard work can make what seems impossible become possible.
“Over the years we have been to some great competitions and this one is right up there with the best!” said coach Tracy Stevens. “Our team skated extremely well and it was a fantastic weekend full of fun and laughter.”
“What a wonderful experience! We are incredibly happy with how the team performed and are looking forward to the upcoming British Championships for the Youth-Senior Dance Championships in July, where Lucy Owen will be competing in Youth Dance. We are also hosting our very own Spectrum Competition at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre in August.”
