The crowds came out in force last Friday to see the Christmas tree switch on in Shildon Town Square.
The Mayor Councillor Shirley Quinn was joined by the St. Johns Primary school choir who sang their hearts out to the vast sea of proud parents and residents.
Special guests included Father Christmas who came on his very brightly lit Christmas Sleigh, The Grinch and his friend Cindy Lou and a sparkling Christmas fairy who all sang and danced to the delight of all the people watching.
After a countdown, the lights were switched on to a load roar of jubilation from the crowd, who then followed Father Christmas to a host of family celebration’s held free of charge at the Civic Hall.
The line to see Father Christmas stretched around the building and every child was seen and had the chance to whisper their Christmas wishes and receive a chocolate selection box.
The families were then treated to a huge Christmas party after they had stocked up on the craft fair and tombolas in the back room.
A fabulous night was had by all with many thanks to Shildon Council and the Civic team for hosting the free festivities.
