Autumn has well and truly set in, with the cold and dampness settling in around Shildon and surrounding areas, writes Glenn Gibson. However, the Veterans Hub do offer a warm environment, even if it is for just a few hours, so come along, be warm and have a friendly chat with others.
October’s get together is another Curry Day. Many thanks to Wellbeing for Life for providing funding to put this on again for the veterans. And don’t worry if you don’t like curry, the normal donations of food from Shildon Alive will also be available.
I can only report second hand how September’s get together went as I was away on holiday, but according to everyone I have spoken to, it went really well and was well attended. The curry was apparently very tasty, which I am looking forward to myself this month. So, get yourself down if you are a veteran and try the delicious spicy Asian flavours set to be served.
Please remember that the curry gets cooked early on in the meeting, so please bear that in mind when considering the time you arrive.
Some Veterans Hub attendees supported the Shildon Branch Royal British Legion in their sponsored sleep out in Hackworth Park. The sleep out, as reported in last week’s Crier, took place from noon on Saturday 28 until Sunday 29 September. Again, this was a very successful veteran event in Shildon which is hoped to have successfully met its fundraising target of £1,000.
The Shildon Branch Royal British Legion meet in the Railway Institute on the second Tuesday of each month at 8pm. It all shows how active the Shildon community are in supporting local veterans in the town.
With the upcoming Remembrance Day Parade soon to be upon us, both the Veterans Hub and RBL are calling for all veterans to support the parade by taking part. Lets march tall with pride, we have done our duty and Lest we Forget.
