A Shildon family is inviting the community to come together for some festive fun and fundraising at Quinn’s Retreat’s annual Mental Elf Family Fun Run and Christmas Fayre, taking place on Sunday, 30 November at Shildon Civic Hall.
The event is organised in memory of Dyl and Quinn Beadle, much-loved siblings from Shildon, whose names live on through the charity Quinn’s Retreat — a peaceful retreat providing breaks for families bereaved by suicide.
The 5k Mental Elf Run encourages people of all ages and abilities to walk, jog, run, skip, hop, or scoot their way around the course, with fancy dress optional and prizes for the best costume and for the person who raises the most sponsorship. Entry costs £10 per adult and £5 per child, with all proceeds helping the charity continue its vital work.
Following the run, the festive fun continues at the Christmas Fayre, featuring a raffle, stalls, crafts, tombola, children’s activities, and of course, a visit to Santa’s Grotto. Doors open at 11 AM at Shildon Civic Hall.
Tracey Beadle, who founded Quinn’s Retreat in memory of her children, said: “The Mental Elf Run is such a special day for us — it’s full of laughter, festive fun, and community spirit.
“It’s lovely to see families coming together, not only to remember Dyl and Quinn, but to help others who are going through the hardest of times. Every smile and every step taken on the day means so much.”
