On Saturday 12 October, Hackworth parkrun, which started back in 2013, will be celebrating its 500th outing.
Since it began, the free weekly run has played host to almost five thousand individual runners who have between them clocked up an impressive total of almost one hundred and thirty thousand kilometers.
Like all parkruns across the globe, Hackworth parkrun is a friendly event where anyone can walk, jog or run at their own pace. It’s not a race, it’s a free weekly timed run which combines fitness and social activities. Anyone can take part and take from it what they want.
To help celebrate the special day, organisers will be hosting a special Pacers event and The Friends of Hackworth parkrun will be serving refreshments in the Hackworth Hub. There’ll be tea, coffee and cold drinks along with treats to delight everyone.
All are welcome and as well as running there’s also the opportunity to volunteer at parkrun.
To make it all work the event needs volunteers every week to cover such roles as marshals, timekeepers and barcode scanners.

Runners must remember to print out your barcode or save a copy on your phone as without a barcode your result can’t be registered.
