After losing her dad at just three years old, Timothy Hackworth pupil Daisy Mathison has done something extraordinary.
Now nine, she has published a children’s book to help other young people cope with grief — inspired by her own journey of love, loss, and healing.
The book, Daisy & Hugsy — The Missing Star, tells the story of a magical bear named Hugsy Brightheart who learns to navigate life after his best friend — a wise old star — disappears from the sky.
It’s a gentle, emotional tale designed to support children dealing with the loss of someone they love.
Tuesday 3 June marked the sixth anniversary of Daisy’s father’s passing, Daley Mathison, and with Father’s Day so close to that anniversary, the book launched as a gift of remembrance and comfort for families everywhere.
Daley passed away whilst competing at the Isle of Man TT, where he was a seeded and experienced rider.
“Daisy wanted to create something for children who might feel the same sadness she’s felt,” says Natalie Mathison, Daisy’s mum and co-creator.
“This book is Daisy’s way of letting other kids know they’re not alone — that even when someone we love becomes a star, their love still shines in everything we do.”
The story began as a drawing Daisy made of a cuddly bear with a glowing heart.
With her mum’s support, it grew into a full storybook, now available on Amazon.
