Moors in the Community’s Christmas drive has gone up a gear with the announcement of their annual Christmas Food Hamper Appeal.
Each year, the club’s community arm orchestrates a monumental effort to facilitate food donations which can be passed on to the people who need it most during the festive period.
“There was an extraordinary response to our appeal last year,” the club reports on its website, “and, with your help, we’re hoping that it can deliver a similar impact across the town and local area in 2023.
“Donations can be dropped into the Sports Bar at The Brewery Field any time up until Monday 11th December and we’re seeking the following items: tins; tea/coffee; rice pudding; custard; biscuits; pasta/rice; long life fruit juice; instant meals; pasta sauce and cereal.
“If you can spare even one or two of these items, then you could play your part in helping us to make a big difference to local people this festive period.”
Meanwhile, on the pitch, captain Mark Anderson has revealed that Moors staff and players are absolutely focused on getting back to their best as they look to build on an encouraging first half of the 2023/24 campaign.
Moors have been among the front-runners for the majority of the season and Anderson has insisted that they are approaching the potentially crucial Christmas period in high spirits.
A recent dip in form has seen the side exit the FA Vase and slide to 9th in the table after picking up just 5 points from 18 in a packed November schedule.
“I think we’ve started the season well,” Anderson told spennymoortownfc.co.uk.
“We’ve won games and lost games but we’re still sitting in a strong position in the table and we’re ten points in front of where we were at this point last year, so that’s progression and that’s what we were looking for.
“We made no secret of the fact that we wanted to challenge for the play-offs when we came back in this season – I think we’re happy with how it’s gone in general so far, but we know we could have done better in some games.
“We’re around where we want to be though, and the boys can all be pleased with their efforts to date and now we need to really kick on and try to get higher in the table.
“If we keep doing what we do, we will back ourselves to do that so the bottom line is that we’re happy with what’s gone on so far, but we know we can keep improving and that’s what we will all work towards.”
Moors have had an extended break to work on the training pitch and return to league action on 16 December when
Buxton will be the visitors to the Brewery Field.
