Dear Editor,
I am trying to locate a Mr Simon Andrew Birbeck, whom I believe used to live at No.3, Mulberry Drive, Spennymoor, DW6 7BY. It is my belief he may have sold the property sometime around 2015 and relocated elsewhere.
My reasons for contacting Mr Birbeck are family history related. I have in my possession a Lord Wharton Bible that was given to me a number of years ago by a friend, Norman Greenhow, who then lived in Asby, Westmorland.
Inside the cover there are listed some names of the Birbeck family who lived in Appleby, Westmorland, in the 19th century, with their births, deaths etc.
Having done much research on the Birbeck family name, it is my belief that Simon’s great-great-grandfather was one John Birbeck, who was a Cooper, and was one of the Appleby family.
My own family line came from Colby, the small village near Appleby, though there is a marriage that connects my Colby line to the Appleby family.
Since the Lord Wharton Bible lists the Appleby family, I thought that the book should be returned to a descendant of that family: hence my reason for trying to contact Simon, to see if he or his family would like to have the book.
I would appreciate it if you are able to assist in any way in my search for Simon.
I live in the Scottish Borders near Melrose.
Yours sincerely,
George E.J.Birbeck
