This was not only a venue Iād never attended previously but also Iām not a huge Oasis fan. Yet here I am at Shildon Railway Institute about to take photos and video footage of an Oasis tribute band, writes David Austin.
Firstly, the event was in aid of ManHealth, who support men in the communities across County Durham Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. Mental health is something that we can all suffer from and these guys offer an amazing helping hand.
Then thereās the venue, Shildon Railway Institute was the first railway institute in the world and the present building opened in 1913, was built by Timothy Hackworth for the benefit of his workforce. Institute is now ran as a not for profit Community Benefit Society and is in the process of seeking funding to restore the building to ensure we can continue to serve our community. After learning more about the venueās history and purpose, it felt like the perfect setting for a community-focused live music event.
And to the gig, the band, the musicā¦.. we could have been stood in front of āOasisā ā the crowd sang along, danced and cheered to the old favourites such as Morning Glory, Half the World Away, Roll with it just to name a few, all definitely worth getting a ticket for the next gig.
We have ā Dan ā (Liam) ā vocals and tambourine, Mark ā (Noel) ā guitar and vocals, Ross ā lead guitar, Mick ā bass guitar, Max ā drums and lets not forget Paul ā sound man (amazing job!)
Was it a sell out? Probably, I canāt count that far, did everyone enjoy the gig? I would say so, yes!
Just want to say thank you to the guys from Mad Ferret, you are responsible for me singing Oasis songs ever since. Am I more of an Oasis fan now? Not sure but definitely a Mad Ferret fan.
If you get the chance to see Mad Ferret, take it ā they deliver a show full of energy, nostalgia, and genuine connection with the audience.
