An evening of bike rides and family fun is being held in Bishop Auckland Market Place on Wednesday 12th August, to coincide with the Bishop Auckland Cycle Races.

The Ride Bishop event, organised by Durham County Council and Local Motion, will give Bishop Auckland residents the chance to try out the cycle track for themselves before the professional races begin.

Registration starts at 5pm before an adult only ride for all abilities, followed by a Superhero Family Fun Ride at 5.45pm.

Families are encouraged to go along with their children dressed in their favourite superhero outfit and ride their bike or scooter around the track. Fancy dress is optional but there will be spot prizes awarded for the best costumes.

Attendees are then welcome to stay and watch the Youth and Senior races in action where there will be the chance to see Professional BMXer and Guinness World Record holder, Matti Hemmings.

Councillor Neil Foster, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economic regeneration and culture, said, “The addition of the family fun rides means everyone in the town can get involved with what we hope will be a fantastic evening.”

A limited number of adult bikes will be available for those who request one when booking.
