Jubilee Fields Community Centre is preparing to celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday 5 September, marking a special milestone for a building that has been at the heart of Shildon for a quarter of a century. As part of the celebrations, we are inviting former staff members, volunteers and trustees to come forward now and share memories, stories and photographs from their time at the centre. These will form part of a special Memory Wall, celebrating the people who helped shape Jubilee Fields over the years.
The anniversary will be marked with a free family fun day, open to the whole community. The event will include inflatables, fun‑fair style games, prize every time stalls, arts and crafts and a family disco, creating a day that reflects the fun, inclusive spirit the centre has always stood for. We are also reaching out to local businesses who may wish to support the event through donations, sponsorship or contributions towards activities, Any support will help us make the day truly memorable for families across the town.
Centre Development Co‑ordinator, Lesley Bowes, shared a personal reflection: “My dad ‘Ossie Bowes’ was the very first manager of Jubilee Fields Community Centre when it opened, sharing the role with Diane Rewcastle. It means a lot to me, to now be in a position where I can help carry on the work he started. I want to honour that legacy by bringing the whole town together for a fun, welcoming and fully inclusive celebration that reflects everything this centre has meant to Shildon over the last 25 years.”
