Five members from the North East’s only Kyokushin karate club, Chikara Dojo, took their club level gradings recently at the club’s annual training camp.
The group were tested for two hours on technique, stamina and ability by visiting instructor Shihan (Master) Mac Robertson (6th Dan).
From the adult’s class, Stevie Bingham achieved his orange belt while James Cooke achieved his orange belt black stripe. Michelle Turnbull and Bradley Hall both achieved blue belt black stripe status. The highest rank achieved was by Lee Corner who graded to yellow belt, black stripe.
Chief Instructor Adam Walker commented, “Standards in our club are extremely high and we expect nothing but the best from our students.
“I am pleased by the results of this grading and they just go to show that training regularly and hard pays off. Taking a grading as part of our annual Summer Camp is always tough, as training takes place throughout the entire weekend and it is extremely tiring, particularly for those who want to move up the ranks.”
The next club level grading will take place in December and the next national grading will take place at the annual Kyokushin Winter Camp in Scotland in February next year.
