Shildon Railway Cricket Club hopes to kick start the season on Saturday, after cricket leagues across the country found themselves having to postpone the start of the 2024 season due to the unusually wet weather, reports John Brennan.
“Groundsmen across the country have been unable to prepare pitches and outfields due to the exceptional amount of rain we’ve had, so we’re hoping that it remains dry over the next few days which will give us a chance of getting some cricket played,” said a club spokesman.
The 1st XI entertains Middlesbrough at the Hackworth Road Ground in the North Yorks. & South Durham Premier Cricket League Division 2, whilst the 2nd XI goes to Richmond in the Darlington & District Division B fixture.
The club is looking for sponsors to assist with finances. One way of sponsoring the club is by advertising your company via a board/ hoarding at the ground. The cost of this is £200 for the first season, which includes the make-up of the board to your specifications, and thereafter £100 per season. Go to the club’s Facebook page for further information.
