A Shildon-born muscian who performs as Aurora Engine has just released her debut album to great acclaim and is set to perform a launch gig on 23rd February at The Cumberland Arms in Newcastle.
The artist, formerly known as Deborah Shaw, would love to play a local gig in Shildon one day.
“Shildon is my home town where I grew up and studied music and I write a lot about my childhood in the album,” she told the Crier.
“I hope to plan a gig in Shildon when I start touring the album,” she said, adding, “I’d actually love to play Shildon Bandstand!”
Now living in Scotland, Aurora Engine, who sings in her native Durham accent, has been described by the Scotsman as “an ultra-cool artist” and among other accolades has scooped Single of the Week on BBC Radio Scotland’s The Afternoon Show while being named Artist of the Week by BBC Introducing Newcastle. Her Edinburgh Festival Fringe run was also sold out.
Mixing progressive electronica alongside live harp and piano, Shaw explores topics such as her experience as a single mother, the porn industry, feminist themes, imaginary friends, miniaturists and drunken brawls.
Her latest single Ice Pop Shop was released in January and can be listened to, as can her album, Secret Knock, via streaming services such as Spotify and SoundCloud.
