Kirk Merrington Craft Makers are organising a craft fair and coffee afternoon at Kirk Merrington Community on Saturday 5 October, from 12 noon to 4pm to raise money for The Lewy Body Society.
The fair will include a raffle, tombola and children’s craft table, with all proceeds going to the charity.
Lewy body is the second most common form of dementia, caused by abnormal deposits of alpha synuclein fatty acids in the brain, but few have heard of it.
Lewy bodies change the chemical composition in the brain and cause problems with thinking, hallucination, movement, behaviour and mood.
As with any form of dementia the condition is progressive and debilitating.
“Many of Kirk Merrington Craft Makers, have experience of family and friends living with dementia,” said a spokesperson, “and one member is a Lewy body dementia research nurse, so the choice of who to raise funds for at our first charity craft fair was easy.
“Thus we began producing hundreds of crafted items to sell at the fair, with all profits going to The Lewy Body Society.
“There will also be stalls hired by members of the public, with unusual items such as wooden crafted items, sea glass jewellery, painted stones, greetings cards and paper crafts, as well as delicious home made bakes, and many more.
“We will also have an information stand manned by our Lewy body dementia research nurse who will be happy to answer all your questions about the role of the society and the condition itself.
“Please come along, grab a lovely hand crafted item or two at very reasonable prices, and support a great cause.”
