Chilton’s Christmas Lights Switch-on and Parade is set to take place on Friday 24th November.
This year’s event will be different, as each year group from Chilton Primary school have been busy creating a light display.
Meanwhile, Chilton Primary Friends and Chilton Junior Club are making lanterns to use in a parade prior to the switch on.
The light display will be open to the public to view in the school hall from 4.30pm until 6pm.
Entry is by ticket only and are £1 per person, on sale at Chilton Town Council offices on weekdays from 9am – 3pm and Chilton Community College from 5.30pm – 8pm weekdays, excluding Wednesdays.
Included in the ticket price is the option to choose a lantern and join the parade, which will be lining up at the school’s main entrance gates from 6pm– 6.10pm.
The parade will leave promptly at 6.15pm, follow- ing a designated route ulti- mately arriving at the Town Square at 6.30pm, ready for the lights switch-on.
Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied. In the interest of public safety, a road closure has been organised. At 6.30pm the usual annual festivities will commence including a small fun fair ride and catering vehicle. Members of St Aidan’s Church have kindly agreed to supply and circulate sweet mince pies and re- freshments.
Reverend Alison Richard- son has agreed to lead the event.
There are strong rumours circulating that Santa will take time out of his busy schedule and drop by during the evening.
The culmination of the celebrations will be the official switch-on of the Christmas lights at 7pm by town mayor, Councillor Tonya Duprey, accompa- nied by this year’s Gala Princess winner, Faith Corr. A spokesperson for the town council said: “We wish to thank volunteers who have kindly raised £162 towards the lights along with everyone else who is assisting and performing at both events.”
