Chilton Town Council commemorated the 80th Anniversary of D-Day by participating in an event that took place all over the UK as well as other countries such as the United States and Australia, starting with a Proclamation at 8am which was read out by Chilton Town Crier,
Norman Strongman.
Chilton Academy also took part by holding an assembly with poems read by some of the students. The commemoration closed with the reading of the Tribute by Town Mayor Cllr Stuart Sutherland.
On Saturday, 8 June the town council continued the D-Day commemorations with an afternoon of music and fun. Entertainment was provided by singer Chris Tame, JD and the Woodsman and the fabulous Brenda Collins singing and compering.
There were pictures on display provided by Chilton and Windlestone 150 Years, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made 80 years ago.
The proceeds from the door will be donated to the King’s nominated charity, whilst Cllr Pearl Malpas held a raffle with the proceeds going towards local District Nurses.
A spokesperson said: “We would like to thank the people of Chilton for supporting our event and turning up in fancy dress, and thank you to Chilton Sports and Social Club for being wonderful hosts.”
