Chilton, along with many towns and villages across South West Durham, will commemorate VE Day with respect and celebrations.
May 8 2025 will mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe and as it was in 1945 the heart of the celebrations will be in our local communities.
As a tribute to those who fought for our freedom Chilton Town Council is encouraging everyone to take part by asking the residents, shops, businesses, and community venues to raise the flags and roll out bunting from 8 – 10 May.
A spokesperson said: “We ask that once again we all help colour our town red, white and blue, and stand alongside over 2.4 billion people across the UK and Commonwealth who will pay tribute to all who served in the Second World War.
“The VE Day flag will be raised at 9am on the 8th May in front of Hutton House. Beacons and Lights of Peace will be lit across the country at 9.30pm to symbolise the enduring strength of our communities.
“Chilton will also host a big Celebration Event on Saturday 10th May from 1-5pm at the Community Sports and Social Club with live entertainment, prizes, 40’s fancy dress –which is optional but always fun!”
