A local band which was formed as a way of giving back to charity has two gigs coming up in aid of the Air Ambulance Service and Cancer Research UK.
The band, called The Ded Wrongenz, was set up by David Ross after he had recovered from being kicked in the chest by a horse. David needed the services of the Air Ambulance and after a number of tests in hospital it was initially thought he may have lung cancer, but further investigations found out he had Sarcoidosis, a rare condition that causes small patches of swollen tissue, called granulomas, to develop in the organs of the body and on the skin.
While the diagnosis wasn’t the best, he felt he had been given a second chance, so decided with a bunch of family and friends to start a band and give something back to good causes. The band take no money for their gigs, instead donating all proceeds to their chosen charities.
David’s niece, Suzanne, who plays in the band said: “We have recently found out that our drummer, Gordon, has been diagnosed with Grade 4 cancer, so we wanted to make these latest gigs nights to remember while raising valuable funds for the two charities. We have have already raised money for Macmillan and If you Care Share Foundation. We also have a Justgiving page link on the band’s Facebook page as well as a raffle on both nights.
The first of the concerts is taking place on 21st October at Evenwood Club in aid of the Air Ambulance Service and the second will be at Shildon Civic Hall on 4th November in aid of Cancer Research UK.
