Local community interest company, Bright Futures Ferryhill, is supporting families in Ferryhill with their services ahead of the winter months which see many families struggle.
Currently, Bright Futures offer a weekly children’s activity programme, for primary school aged children, including themed clubs and a youth club.
Additionally they operate a community pantry open to all members of the public to access heavily discounted food and household items, whilst also saving them from landfill.
However, in conversation with local families it has become apparent that for those young people with working parents, afterschool childcare can be a struggle to find or afford.
Consequently, Bright Futures has launched a totally flexible after school club with pick up from Broom Cottages and Cleves Cross primary schools.
The club sees the children collected from school and transported to a dedicated new hub inside Ferryhill Sport and Education Centre.
The club includes all snacks, drinks, a hot meal and dessert along with activities, games and entertainment.
Currently in the process of becoming Ofsted registered, the new service hopes to help out families who struggle with childcare around school.
