Aycliffe Fell Walkers out in Eskdale

The latest walk was one of the most enjoyable days with the Aycliffe Fell Walking Club, writes Andy Jakob. We were in North Yorkshire to walk between Ugthorpe and Whitby.

My group took a walk from Barton Howl on the A171 heading south via Egton and Egton Bridge where we joined the Esk Valley Way. The weather was stunning with clear blue skies and no rain but there were some slippery places underfoot from early morning ice and mid-afternoon mud!

Others took a route via Ugthorpe, Mulgrave Woods and Castle to end up on the coast at Sandsend with a nice walk down to Whitby.

We all had a great day but later we all met up for a Christmas meal at the Granby Hotel. The superb team of chefs and servers led by manager Debbie delivered 36 meals in record time and of such quality that I can highly recommend the Granby to anyone visiting Whitby.

The coach journey home was a happy one with a short raffle for free walks next year, lots of singing and warm conversations. We look forward to next year’s calendar.
