A popular community hub in Bishop Auckland is making the most of a recent makeover with bright new, energy-saving spaces from which to deliver its programme of activities.
Re-decoration work at Auckland Youth and Community Centre Limited (AYCC) follows a programme of major renovations over the last year, after it managed to secure over £15,000 from a range of generous funders.
With the refurbishments complete and the building re-decorated, the centre – which has now re-started most of its comprehensive range of services – can continue re-building support for the Woodhouse Close community in a smarter, brighter and more environmentally friendly space.
Thanks to funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation, Durham County Council Business Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP), Gaunless Gateway Big Local Partnership and the Dulux Community Paint Scheme, the centre installed a new efficient boiler, energy-saving PIR lighting and a brand-new kitchen. This was followed soon afterwards by re-decoration to make the centre even more welcoming.
Locally based Trades4Care were hired to re-decorate. As a non-profit organisation working with local apprentices and having a very high standard of work and attention to detail, Trades4Care were the perfect choice.
The project included new paint, purchased from the generous Dulux Community Paint Scheme for a fraction of the normal cost, renovated ceilings, varnished doors, upgraded skirting boards, and more. AYCC’s staff and volunteers love the new space.
Company Secretary and Treasurer, Nadine Kipling, said: “The project has made a big difference. “Together, the renovations and subsequent redecoration have improved our energy efficiency, comfort and ambience in the building for our users, hirers and staff.
“It’s an excellent example of keeping our building in good repair for our residents and other users. “We look forward to Trades4Care coming back in early 2022 for the second re-decoration phase, when people will be able to enjoy the centre’s complete new look.”
