Locomotion, the National Railway Museum at Shildon is to welcome a new exhibition “Railway and landscape art” by local painter Stephen Bainbridge.
The exhibition can be seen from Wednesday 1st April to Sunday 26th April.
Stephen Bainbridge’s artworks often reflect his lifelong passion for the days of steam railways. He always aims to produce paintings that are detailed and technically accurate while portraying the atmosphere of the days of steam.
He developed a particular interest in Sir Nigel Gresley and his locomotives having spent many happy hours trainspotting at Peterborough and Grantham in his youth.
He has been working with the acrylic medium for over 40 years, initially developing techniques under the tutelage of the professional artist Noel Gregory.
Born in Leicester, Stephen taught in Buckinghamshire for 36 years before retiring and moving to the North. Initially Stephen made his home in Cumbria before settling in Newton Aycliffe, where he now lives with his wife Shelagh.
