Police are asking for anyone with information to come forward after a hit and run driver reversed a flat bed truck into a garden wall on 18th December at 4.15pm.
The incident, which took place at Wesley Crescent, left considerable damage to the wall.
CCTV footage, which captured the entire incident, shows the vehicle, which appears to have a pipe reaching over the cabin of the truck at an angle from the centre of the trailer, reversing from the opposite side of the road and colliding with some force with the wall, from which pieces can be seen falling.
The driver, who may have been dropping off a work colleague, then pulled forward and vacated his vehicle, which has a distinctively shaped cabin, in order to inspect the damage to the truck but ignored the damage to the garden wall before then driving away without reporting the accident.
It is believed that, owing to the severity of the destruction caused to the garden wall, which now has a large gap, the flat bed truck must have also been significantly damaged.
It has been estimated that the damage to the wall will cost £5,000 to repair.
PC Emma Donnelly, the police officer investigating the incident said: “Police are very eager to speak with the owner of this vehicle.
“If anyone has any information surrounding this incident or recognises this vehicle, please call 101 and ask to speak to me – PC 2777 Donnelly at Bishop Auckland Police Station.”
