Amelia Rowley, five, of Shildon has been recognised with one of the Junior Superstar Awards through County Durham Youth Council.
In a heart-warming tribute to Amelia, her very proud mammy, Brooke Dunham, said: “Amelia is very much Shildon’s very own little superstar, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything she has achieved.
“This award means so much to us because Amelia has had to navigate some incredibly difficult experiences from such a young age.
“When she was just three years old, we sadly lost both her Auntie Chelsea and her Granny Bingo, who tragically passed away within the same week.
“Amelia lived with them, so she wasn’t simply losing family members — she was losing two people who were a huge part of her everyday life, her home and her world.
“Having to experience that level of grief at just three years old was incredibly difficult.
“Yet, despite everything, Amelia has shown a strength and resilience that amazes me every single day.
“Then, on her 4th birthday, Amelia became a big sister.
“Through all of the changes and challenges she had experienced, she continued to show our family just how kind, loving, caring and strong she could be.
“She has been an amazing big sister and has continued to be a real rock within our family.
“Alongside everything she has faced personally, Amelia has also continued to thrive at school, surpassing every level and achieving so much.
“She has shown incredible determination, resilience and an attitude that makes us incredibly proud. I truly believe this award recognises so much more than her success at school. It recognises the strength, kindness, compassion and resilience she has shown throughout her young life.
“She has experienced heartbreaking loss, adapted to huge changes and still managed to keep her beautiful, kind spirit.
“I honestly believe everyone could take a leaf out of Amelia’s book.
“She is living proof that no matter what life throws at you, you can pick yourself up, keep going and achieve anything you put your mind to.
“She has shown that difficult experiences don’t have to define you, and that you can continue to grow, shine and make those around you proud.
“Well done, Amelia; Shildon’s very own Junior Superstar!”
