Last week, Ferryhill Town and Durham County Councillor, Joe Quinn, met with Ferryhill Station Ambassador’s for Community Change.
The Ambassadors are working towards getting the very old banners outside the Eldon Arms and on the bridge removed as they are faded, mouldy and, as one Ambassador said, “don’t welcome anyone into Ferryhill.”
Glenys from Approach Too said: “The role of the Ambassadors is to find out how to make positive changes in their community and to work with local decision makers.
“After reporting the issue on Durham County Council’s Do it Online portal and speaking to people from various departments about who is responsible for the banners, the Ambassadors found out a councillor will have to fund the cost of the banners being removed.
“So they contacted Councillor Quinn.
“The Ambassadors also asked if he would view a field at the back of Church Street which is blighted with fly tipping.
“They said a lot of children like to play on the field and make camps in the trees, but feel unable to use it now because of the fly tipping and broken glass.
“They have also reported the issue via Do it Online but asked Cllr Quinn if he could help them get the issue resolved.
“We will keep you informed of any developments.”
