On Sunday, Ferryhill Town Youth U16’s took on Hardwick Youth at the rec as they looked to extend their unbeaten run, writes Paul McKeown.

Ferryhill started brightly and the high press from the front three of Mckenzie, George and Aaron was relentless.

This forced the Hardwick defence into a number of errors and with just ten minutes on the clock, Ferryhill opened the scoring through Carlton.

He picked the ball up a full 30 yards out and fired a shot back over the keeper’s head and into the net. There was nothing he could do about it as it sailed over him. A brilliant start to the game.

The football Ferryhill played in the first half was relentless and a pleasure to watch. A good pass forward set George away outpacing the Hardwick defender and he finished well to put the home team two-nil up.

As the half drew to a close, Layton G put a good delivery in from a corner and after a scramble it was George who pounced to finish from close range and send the side into the break 3-0 to the good.

The second half turned into a fiesty affair, with some strong challenges from both sides. Marc, Zach, Carlton and Layton were strong in midfield all game and protected the back three and the home goal well.

Aidan had little to do in the Ferryhill goal as he along with Tyler, Layton H, Jack and then Jude were on course for a well deserved clean sheet.

Jake and Charlie both gave some fresh legs and continued pushing the home team on as others were tiring.

There were no more goals in the match but it wasn’t for a lack of effort. The win leaves Ferryhill unbeaten now in seven matches.

The one negative from the game was a recurrence of a recent shoulder injury for Aidan, but hopefully it isn’t too serious and he can get back quickly.
