Spotlight on Henknowle centre

The Wednesday Sugarcraft session is a chance to craft and enjoy a cuppa and a natter.

Henknowle Community Centre, which was built in the mid 1970s and is based in the heart of the Henknowle Estate in Bishop Auckland, is a hive of activity with something to suit people of all ages.

Various groups use the centre including the baby and toddler group, Hartbeeps: designed by experts, fuelled by magic, delivered with love! They meet term time every Monday morning and put your child at the heart of their magical, musical adventures.

The table tennis group meet on a Monday evening from 7pm and they welcome people of all ages and of any experience.

The Healthy Heart Group meets every Tuesday morning from 10am and is open to anyone who has heart related problems and their carers.

Mat Pilates sessions take place on a Tuesday evening at 6:30pm and they work on joint mobility, flexibility, balance and core strength using a series of slow controlled exercises.

The Sugarcraft and Friends & Leisure groups get together on Wednesday’s for a relaxed social session while enjoying a range of gentle activities from kurling to bowling, sugar craft and cake decorating. They also enjoy a cuppa and a natter!

If you want to have a go at line dancing, then join Twinkle every Wednesday night from 8pm. Sessions are for beginners and improvers.

The Sewing Nook meet every Thursday morning from 9am till 12pm and is a self-help sewing class with tutor. New members are always welcome.

ManHealth sessions take place on a Thursday from 6pm till 8pm and groups are open to any man aged 18+. The groups are open to men affected by depression or other mental health issues to share friendship and support over a common condition. All ManHealth groups are run by men with a lived experience of mental ill health. The weekly sessions are designed to provide an opportunity to meet new friends, helping to end the social stigma, and loneliness of mental ill health.

SAS Taekwondo offer both children and adults the opportunity to learn self defence and self discipline in a professional but relaxed environment by a qualified instructor. Sessions take place on Fridays and Sundays at 6pm.

The centre also offers a large sports hall, kitchen, lounge and small meeting rooms. Residents can book the centre for birthday parties and special occasions.
